A Model for Healing Prayer
Arty Hart - Senior pastor (email Arty)

Sunday Morning Healing Seminar - Part 4 (presented July 31, 2005)

Review:

  • Healing has always been a manifestation of the character of God.
  • The reason for a prayer model is to help us see what the Father is doing and to encourage us to do the stuff Jesus did.
  • Step one determines where it hurts.
  • Step two determines why it hurts.
  • Step three addresses how we should pray . Let's look…

STEP THREE – THE PRAYER SELECTION
( Takes place at the end of the interview )

Answers the question: "What kind of prayer will I need to pray to help this person?" Remember to continue to ask questions as you pray (What is going on? Do you feel anything? What are you thinking about?) Jesus did this with a blind man and with the father of a demonized boy.

A. Prayer for Physical Healing

1. Invite the Holy Spirit to come in power to heal
(Luke 5:17)

2. Lay hands on area (be discreet)

3. Bless where and what God is doing (open your eyes)

4. Address the problem and tell it what your want it to do.
Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit

5. Prayer of command (only if the Holy Spirit has directed you)
If you command/pronounce healing and God has not directed you to you may actually hurt their faith.

6. Phenomenological response (not specifically mentioned in the Bible, but neither is closing your eyes when you pray – these come from experience)

a. sensations of warmth (chills, electricity…)
b. movement (quivering, goosebumps, sweat, breathing…)
c. pain, etc. (sometime increases as God touches them)

Note – DO NOT tell them to quit taking medicine, remove braces… Jesus sent them to the priest for confirmation (Matthew 8:4). Tell them to go see their doctor. God is not intimidated or offended by doctors or the medical profession.

Running out of time, we'll pick this up again next week.
Are you ready to try it? Let's pray for each other.
