now each summer since then he has been given the thumbs up...

My son Christopher was born with Williams syndrome, a rare condition that is often diagnosed by a heart condition. At age 4, a cardiologist indicated he would need open-heart surgery. I did not know whether I should put his life at risk under a knife, so sought a second opinion, asking the Lord to show me whether it was necessary. The second cardiologist, a Christian, also determined surgery was absolutely necessary.

We had multiple attempts to give Chris an MRI prior to surgery, all with disastrous results. In one case, he was wheeled in on a metal bed which flew across the room by the magnetic pull of the MRI machine. I grabbed Chris off the bed and he was unharmed but the machine had millions of dollars worth of damage and was put out of commission for some time.

I felt that the Lord wanted me to ask for prayer, and did all over Gainesville , even visiting other churches to let them know of our need.

The night before the surgery, I just 'happened' to read the story of Abraham sacrificing his son Isaac, and the lamb being provided as the sacrifice. This was a great comfort to me. Also, I learned that the surgeon had initially wanted to be a minister and then chose surgery as his vocation. He was a blessing, sitting at Chris' bedside for the first couple nights to watch over him.

I am not going to say it was easy, but after a half-day or so surgery and two weeks in the hospital, 1 month recovery at home, and the support of family, friends and church family, Chris was well and strong. He was very brave and endured a great difficulty, facing many fears; now each summer since then he has been given the thumbs up from his cardiologist!

I count this as a great miracle, which continues on each day of our lives. I offer praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for providing the sacrifice!

she's been episode free ever since that Wednesday night

When Elizabeth who's now 20 was about 6 months old she started having seizures. We didn't think much of them at the time. Once a week or so she'd be crawling and just stop and stare at the ceiling for 30 seconds.

We even joked she must be seeing angels. As she developed physically though they became more pronounced, more ugly looking, lasted longer, and were happening almost daily. We realized something was really wrong so we made an appointment with the pediatrician. Once there we were explaining everything to the Dr. when Elizabeth was good enough to have a seizure in his arms. That definitely got his attention, and he scheduled a battery of tests at Shands for the next day.

That was Wednesday, and that night we took Elizabeth to the regular mid-week service Maranatha Ministries had and the elders laid hands on her and prayed. The next day we took her in for testing which included a children's EEG and CT scan and the experts reading the tests found nothing at all wrong. The Dr. still put her on a minimal dose of phenylbarbitol saying he would need to raise it if she had any more episodes, but she never did, and a couple of months later he took her off the meds all together. The end of the story is she's been episode free ever since that Wednesday night, and to God be the glory.

An Epidural from Heaven

Serving out a sentence in jail is hard enough, just imagine having to give birth from within the walls of the County Jail.

I was pregnant at the time, with my 3rd daughter. During my labor and delivery, the nurses and guards unfortunately failed to respond. I ended up delivering my baby girl, in my jail cell that day. Having had 2 girls (in a normal Hospital environment) prior to this delivery, I know just how hard labor and delivery is. And those with modern pain relievers. This time I was in labor 10 hours before I delivered. About 6 hours into this I cried out to God to help me get through this painful, terrifying, lonely way to deliver a child. God not only held my hand the rest of the time, but he completely took away my pain. I sailed through the rest of labor and the actual delivery with almost no pain. “It was an epidural from heaven”. The Lord comforted me that day. And I wanted to share that with you.  Even though I was alone in a jail cell that day, the delivery was much much easier than my 2 previous.
I suppose I wasn't alone after all.

moved to Orlando to be with us

Back in April, my Husband was encouraged by his family and friends to file for divorce. Our Daughter and I moved back to Orlando , as I am from here and we have a support system. We joined the Vineyard Community Church of Orlando, I met a Mentor there, and many kind folks who prayed for us.

My Husband left the Vineyard, though he was the one who brought me there, as he attended the Columbus Vineyard, in Ohio . He began attending a different Church with his Parents.

I prayed for 3 1/2 months for clarity in his life, and the day after his birthday, he drove to Orlando , we talked, cried, and loved, and a few days later, he drove back to Gainesville , quit his job, broke his lease, closed down his account, and moved to Orlando to be with us.

We are now Operations Managers at The Orlando Fitness and Racquet Club and are in the process of hosting a Home Group at The Orlando Vineyard. God is SO good!

Thank you all for your prayers! - Monica B. Starr
