Notes from the Summer Supper Missions
and Outreach groups
After the fellowship dinner and the missions and outreach update/program,
diners broke up into 4 groups and brainstormed to come up with ideas/strategies
for moving forward with outreach and missions at the Vineyard.
The “creative/outside the box” group
- Start with the ones who walk through our doors
- Dialog between parents/youth leaders for direction
- Develop both in-reach and out-reach strategies
- Be intentional and pragmatic (practical and ordered)
- Focus on Needs:
- Basic – food/water, shelter, clothes
- Education- Reading, English, trades, after school program
- Counseling
- Healing – addictions, fears, sins, salvation
Community outreach group
- Link up with what is going on in our community
so we are not starting our own OR can learn from other similar
efforts having occurred earlier
- Practical helps
- Empowering people
- Cross-cultural where ever we are
- Surprise
General Outreach/Evangelism/Missions Group
Responding to the following questions:
What can we do to equip our evangelism (outreach and missions) teams
(on an ongoing basis as well as trip or location specific) and how
should/could we effectively accomplish this? Identify steps.
- Communication (reciprocal)
- Monthly missions meetings
- Invite speakers
- Training classes – during or after Sunday
service
- Train everyone for level 1
- Level 2, optional
- Fundraising
Bolivia Missions (we are partnering with Lisa
and Scotty Miser and will be regularly sending college youth and
adult teams, starting at some as of yet unknown point in 2007)
How to do it:
- Identify the specific goals for each trip
- Train people before they go
- Home groups (training)
- 5 step healing model
- Community service projects - practice in the
community
- Spanish classes
- Build relationships with one another: teens, women,
couples, etc.
- Medical things: nurses, doctors, dentists
- Building buildings/structures
- Identification of Spanish speaking members
(here is a start)
- Mike Lisk
- Maribel Lisk
- Rene Borrero
- Ana Morrison
- Paul Griffin
- Dina Gaffney
- Del Villafane
- Arty Hart
- Bill Gaffney
- Rich Morrison
- Jackie Hart
